Mielikki LAURS

I’m a multilingual (French, Mandarin Chinese, and Spanish) and DIY Renaissance woman (arts, music, nature, science) who is named after an ancient forest goddess and I’ve been fortunate enough to have lived in France, China, Costa Rica, and Spain before I became a teacher in my native San Diego. I’ve written for Lonely Planet, Fodor’s, the Associated Press, Wall Street Journal, and National Geographic Adventure Magazine.

I love the water, and especially swimming with San Diego leopard sharks. I’m also a flamenco dancer who performs with Flamenco Arana and Funmenco! of North County.

When I’m not writing, teaching, exploring ,or making something, I’m spending time with my family (including my hydrophilic bengal cat Kitara).
